as únicas duas mantas de retalhos que tenho em casa são muito especiais. uma foi-me oferecida há anos pela avó, era eu miúda. veio de inglaterra e por causa do uso constante já tem um rasgão muito feio (tenho que encontrar uma forma de tapar). a outra veio como prenda de casamento e foi feita por uma amiga americana que considero uma pro em quilting matters e outros tantos diy’s.
estou finalmente a começar um quilt. como a máquina de costura não está nas melhores condições, vai ser mesmo à mão, devagar e compassadamente. a primeira tira ainda nem a passei a ferro, mas queria falar um pouco dos tecidos escolhidos. o da esquerda, comprei-o há quase um ano numa terrinha alentejana que me habita o coração. o do meio veio da retrosaria e acho lindo o padrão e as cores (se não me engano é uma reprodução de um tecido vintage). o da direita comprei-o numa charity shop, na escócia há quase 3 anos. acho que vou combiná-los com umas fazendas de lã possivelmente. se bem que não sei bem como se comportarão juntos o algodão e a fazenda.
the only two quilts i have around the house are pretty special. one was given to me by grandma when i was still a kid. it came from england and, because of constant use it has a bad rip that i need to fix soon. the other one came as a wedding gift from an american friend who i consider to be a pro at quilting and other diy matters.
i’m finally starting a quilt. since my sewing machine is not in the best of shapes, i’m sewing it by hand, slowly. the first row is still not ironed, but i wanted to share a bit about the fabrics i’ll be using. the one on the left was bought about a year ago at this little town in alentejo, a peaceful place that has captured my heart some years ago. the one in the middle came from retrosaria and i love its pattern and colors (if i’m not mistaken it is a reprint from a vintage fabric). the one on the right came from a charity shop in scotland almost 3 years ago. i think i will possibly combine them with some wool cloth, although i son’t know for sure how the two kinds will behave together.
