playing with crochet doilies and hand-cut tetris. rescued and recycled paper. the pink squared paper is possibly older than myself.

the girl is a little travelling bug that lives inside some people who have restless feet. sometimes we live vicariosly through her. she travels by stork and always comes back with a scent of foreign places attached to her hair.
to warm up someone dear.
the yarn i used is a mixture of natural silk, wool, cotton and rayon. taking account the place at which i bought it and the amount of years some items stand on the shelves i would risk saying it might not be produced anymore. it’s made in portugal.

the only two quilts i have around the house are pretty special. one was given to me by grandma when i was still a kid. it came from england and, because of constant use it has a bad rip that i need to fix soon. the other one came as a wedding gift from an american friend who i consider to be a pro at quilting and other diy matters.
i’m finally starting a quilt. since my sewing machine is not in the best of shapes, i’m sewing it by hand, slowly. the first row is still not ironed, but i wanted to share a bit about the fabrics i’ll be using. the one on the left was bought about a year ago at this little town in alentejo, a peaceful place that has captured my heart some years ago. the one in the middle came from retrosaria and i love its pattern and colors (if i’m not mistaken it is a reprint from a vintage fabric). the one on the right came from a charity shop in scotland almost 3 years ago. i think i will possibly combine them with some wool cloth, although i son’t know for sure how the two kinds will behave together.

one of my wishes for this year is to develop my knitting skills (which are barely none). when i was a kid i was taught by grandma and mom and, even though i always used it in small projects over the years, i never went beyond the basics. i only know one stich with security and i feel the need to change that. i grabed a book a friend had given me and ventured on. today, though, i had something even better than books to learn – a pair of wrinkled, experienced hands teaching me stockinet stitch. t.’s grandma is not a very patient teacher and doesn’t seem to be able to do it slowly, but today i was able to follow, and that motivated me to continue.
i remembered this animation today. and went back to this video of an amazing and extreme knitting project. i need some beautiful bamboo needles and wool from Rosa’s shop.
